Material Sense is a dynamic organisation linking designers, researchers and cutting-edge companies in an active network. By sharing expertise and collaborating in the exploration of the properties of materials, new products and new ways of utilizing materials are created. Material Sense lobbies for a materials-oriented design and development of products.

The independent Material Sense platform was founded in 2002 by designer and materials expert Simone de Waart. The name alludes to the sensorial properties of materials, the ‘common sense' idea of using specific materials to achieve better products, and the way we perceive materials using all our senses.

We work with a small core team and for all projects we involve the experts that suits the assignment, sourced from our closely connected networkof of freelancers to our national institutes.
