Workshop The new healthy Estonian Snack, Design Event Tallinn
Invited for the 5th Design festival (Disainiöö) in Tallinn, Simone de Waart gave a workshop on food and packaging design. After the inspiration lecture on sensorial experience, authenticity and materials, the designers together with Chef cooks, started working together.
Hands on the wrapping concepts were created at the nice ambiance of the industrial area of renewed buildings of salt and flour storages. A group of chef cooks from star class restaurants in Tallinn collaborated with the design professionals working in the field from interior-, to product-, stage-, and textile design. They created concepts for a new Estonian snack when Tallinn will be cultural capital in 2011. Four different designs like a healthy burger made from wheat with a delicious meat filing mixed with cranberries was wrapped in a box based inspired by old Russian cans. Special bread topped with cheese and mushroom sauce (Grandwich) referring to grandma’s recipe, is smiling to you behind a transparent handy wrapping. A hot potato bravely cross marked for the topping will warm your hands on a cold winterday, nicely packed in a distinctive box. The last team worked on a an Estonian sushi. Original dark Estonian bread was designed in small boxes something special for a gift. Overall all designers and cooks were concentrated and worked dedicated with great enthusiasm. Hope that the city will take up a concept and that foreigners will be attracted with authentic nicely designed food! With special thanks to the Estonian Design Association.
